The Chronicles of Customer Success: sigil of the Keeper

Built on empathy. Strengthened by communication.
Sustained by value. Protected by Keepers.

The Book

Somewhere between a business book and a fantasy epic.

There’s a world called Aetheria, and it knows exactly what killed your last renewal.

The Chronicles of Customer Success opens with a signature. It ends with a choice every Keeper, every Customer Success professional, eventually faces: hold the alliance, or watch it slip away to the Churn Dragon. In between is everything a Customer Success career actually feels like: onboarding, adoption, the silence before an escalation, the QBR that changes everything. Except here, it’s a citadel under siege, a mentor’s warning, a battle fought with trust instead of swords.

Marcus is an Apprentice Keeper. You’ll follow him through his first alliance, his first broken promise, his first real test of whether he belongs in the Order at all. By the final page, you’ll understand why this story feels less like fiction than it should.

This isn’t a framework book you skim once and shelve. It’s a world you’ll want to return to, and the truth waiting in its epilogue is one reason readers say they didn’t see coming.

Early Reader Reactions

I'm not someone who reads business books cover to cover, but this one pulled me in. The author has a rare ability to take real people from his career and bring out the best of them on the page. Manek, Orion, Wren, you've met these people in real life, and Marcus makes you see what made them great. If you work in Customer Success, Account Management, or any client-facing role, this one's for you.

The Reluctant Apprentice Who Becomes the Guide

Marcus

The Keeper · Citadel of Keepers, Aetheria

Common-born, rising through merit within the Order. Carries no blade, only a satchel of scrolls and a sealed ledger. He listens before he speaks, and nods before he agrees. What he has never lost is the name of every House he was ever given.

I understand the relics. But who actually wields them?
Chapter Two

The Five Masks of the Churn Dragon

I used to believe I had one enemy. I learned, staring at ten lost kingdoms on a single parchment, that I had five, and that each demanded a different sword.

Beware the Churn Dragon

The First Mask

Training That Fades

The Rose & Anchor · one inn, one owner

The mistake I nearly made, the mistake I still watch new Keepers make, is treating low adoption as a diagnosis rather than a symptom.

The Second Mask

A Kingdom Without a Decree

The Whitmoor Collection · four inns, one family

Signed in one evening. Corwin loved it. But did his three brothers, the ones who each run their own inn, love it too?

The Third Mask

A Compass With No North

The Coastline Group · twenty-two properties, growing fast

They wanted to feel more efficient. That was the whole pitch. Efficiency, but efficient how, exactly, and measured by whom?

The Fourth Mask

The Castle That Was Promised

Crown & Compass · a national flagged brand

A year of perfect operational intelligence, forecasted before problems even surfaced. It was true, eventually. It was not true on the day the ink dried.

The Fifth Mask

The Wind That Changed Without Warning

Meridian · a sprawling international group

Healthy for two full seasons, genuinely healthy, no mask I had learned to recognize showing itself anywhere. Then, without warning.

“Not slaying the dragon, but learning to recognize its face before it had finished putting the mask on.”

About the Author

“Marcus has always been me.”

For over seventeen years I’ve worked in Customer Success and Account Management, building relationships with clients across Asia, Europe, and North America. Somewhere in the middle of forecasts and QBRs and renewal cycles, I realized this work was never really about the metrics. It was about the promises we made to people who trusted us with their business, and the discipline it takes to keep them.

I’ve built Customer Success functions from nothing more than a title and a blank page. I’ve also inherited functions already running at scale and grown them further. But the part I’ve never tired of is the relationship itself: the slow work of earning someone’s trust, and the quiet satisfaction of watching a partnership outlast the deal that started it.

The Chronicles of Customer Success is my attempt to put that belief into a story, rather than a slide deck. Aetheria let me tell the truth about this profession without hiding behind case studies.

I hope by now, Marcus has become you.

Beyond the Book

Get in touch.

Marcus never worked alone, and neither do I.

I hear from readers, Customer Success professionals, and founders more often than I expected: some looking for a consulting partner to help build or fix a CS function, some inviting me to speak or run a workshop for their team, and some just early in this career, wanting to talk through how to approach it well. All of it is welcome.

If any of this sounds like you, reach out. I read every message myself.
